About Geology-Verse
Geology-Verse is a free app for Windows and Mac that allows you to explore geology in a computer game-like virtual environment – either on flat screen or in VR (Oculus Rift/Quest 2). You can experience the geology on your own offline or as part of a group, for example led by an educator. Each locality has a choice of activities for enthusiasts, school students and undergraduate students featuring geological tours and tasks such as mapping. Educators can lead groups of students in their own activity within Geology-Verse environments and are assisted by the demonstration and interaction tools available within each locality.
The best geologists are those who have seen the most rocks. Geology-Verse provides a way of seeing a lot of rocks in the wild, without the time or expense of leaving home. It provides a logistics-free way of exploring planet Earth which is ideal for quick classroom visits and for self-study.
Our first locality will soon be available for free and is based around the small village of Inchnadamph in Assynt, Scotland. Located on the Moine Thrust Belt the Inchnadamph activity provides a weeks worth of mapping experience in a classic area of UK geology.
For more information on the activities in Geology-Verse see our sections for Enthusiasts, Schools, UG Students and Educators.
